In Japanese Manga (comics), Yaoi is a genre of gay fiction that features young and attractive male characters, with a greater focus on sexuality and hyper-reality. Usually the stories are commercially popular and marketed to and read by straight audiences globally. 

Yuri, by contrast, is a genre of fiction made largely for queer women. It tends to portray intimate female relationships, and is less focused on sexuality. It is less commercially successful than Yaoi.
